Starting July 1, 2021, the Department of Labor & Industries released a new law requiring contractors performing plumbing work to have a Plumbing License. Similar to having an Electrical License to perform electrical work. This means any contractor performing plumbing work will now need to register with L&I by providing a $6,000 Plumbing Surety Bond along with the appropriate insurance.
If you are currently registered as a contractor, you must obtain a new bond for the new plumbing license.
If you are currently registered as a general contractor you can/should keep your existing General Contractor bond and insurance. However, L&I will require that you submit a separate bond and Certificate of Insurance for both your general contracting business and plumbing operations.
Thankfully, our team at Forest Park Insurance can help navigate the new bond and licensing with L&I.
